Session Summary

The session opened deep in the House Osrin family tomb beneath the Stormhorns, where Silus convinced the ghost of Egan Osrin — the Grand Key Master and brother to Warwick Osrin — that he was Warwick's apprentice. Egan activated the tomb's ancient flame purge, incinerating a nest of parasitic eggs but nearly killing Zolat in the process (saved only by a previously cast Death Ward). With the nest cleansed, the party launched themselves into the 120-foot death pit for an all-out assault on the legendary mama bug: Vindvenford plunged pike-first in a devastating hundred-foot drop, Silus shield-bashed his way down as a human cannonball, and Zolat delivered the killing blow with a well-placed Firebolt. The tomb surrendered its treasures — thousands in gold and artifacts, a Corpse Slayer Boomerang, and most critically, the Grand Key to Shindorim.

A heated debate erupted over whether to use the key and portal directly to Shindorim or return to Threetrees — Vindvenford passionately argued for the portal, citing visions from his hot springs communion, while Zolat needed to free her family from Donovon. A coin flip settled it: Threetrees. Silus cast Word of Recall to the Temple of Kelemvor, and the party split. Zolat tracked down Donovon's shifting doorway and traded the bug excrement for her 27 petrified family members — watching them return to flesh one by one — only to discover her "payment" was a sack of skulls etched with locational map sigils in swamp speech. Vindvenford collapsed at the Oshitzu compound with a caved-in chest and 1 HP, tended by his many wives and catfish hospitalers.

The session's final act detonated in a Threetrees dive bar when two serpentine agents — servants of the black-scaled master — dropped their disguises and attacked Silus for the Shindorim key. Cobra hoods flared, rattlesnake tails shook, and the cry of "Black scales!" rang out as combat erupted. Just as the situation turned dire, an unknown elf agent burst through the door, cast Gust to scatter the attackers, and declared: "Don't worry, you're not alone." The fight rages on.

Key Events

  • Silus persuades Egan Osrin — Rolled persuasion 17 with advantage to convince the ghost of the Grand Key Master that he was Warwick Osrin's apprentice; Egan declared: "My brother's apprentice returns. The legends are true."
  • Egan's flame cleansing — The tomb's purge system activated, incinerating all parasitic eggs; Zolat nearly killed (Death Ward triggered at 1 HP); both magic carpets destroyed

  • Tomb treasure recovered — 2,250 gold in coins, ~4,500 gold in artifacts and collectibles, Corpse Slayer Boomerang, the Grand Key to Shindorim
  • Five paintings discovered — Behind Eleanor Osrin's tapestry: a war dog, "The Bar's Horizon" depicting Threetrees, an Obarskyr dynasty portrait, the "Crocus Aer Dinner 1460" showing elves, and a deliberately destroyed portrait (possibly Kropus Family)
  • Portal debate and coin flip — Vindvenford pushed for Shindorim; party voted; coin flip chose Threetrees; key retained by Silus
  • Word of Recall — Silus teleported the party to the Temple of Kelemvor in Threetrees
  • Zolat frees her family — Traded bug excrement to Donovon; all 27 family members restored from stone to flesh; Donovon extracted a glowing orange-blue substance as a byproduct
  • Bag of skulls — Donovon's "payment" to Zolat: skulls etched with locational map sigils in swamp speech, plus a petty expense list
  • Vindvenford collapses — Returned to the Oshitzu compound at 1 HP with a caved-in chest; tended by wives (Nutty, Nancy, Vincy, Mitsy and Mitsy) and catfish hospitalers
  • Snake agent ambush — Two serpentine agents (servants of the "black-scaled master") attacked Silus and the party in a bar for the Shindorim key; cobra and rattlesnake forms revealed
  • Unknown elf ally — A female elf agent burst in, cast Gust, and declared: "Don't worry, you're not alone."

Lore Revealed

  • Egan Osrin, the Grand Key Master: The "black sheep" of House Osrin, brother to Warwick Osrin (the Shattered Knight). His history was "lost to the texts for he was concealed by all from all for he holds the keys to all." He maintained the tomb's flame purge system and the portal to Shindorim.
  • Shindorim: A legendary location that House Osrin has been protecting the entryway to "from other organizations, other bodies." The Civ allegedly fled there. Hop visited it in Season 2. The tomb inscription reads: "All the swamps empower me. Three gates, two ways to follow me to Shindorim."
  • Silus Greymore — Osrin Connection: Silus's family name confirmed as Greymore, a subsidiary family of House Osrin. Trained by Warwick Osrin but not blood Osrin.
  • Donovon's Petrification Economy: Donovon used arcanic bug excrement to fuel an alchemical process that restored Zolat's 27 petrified family members to living flesh. The process also produced a glowing orange-blue substance — a new discovery referencing "the original collector, that garden."
  • The Founding Families in Art: The tomb's five paintings depict Obarskyr dynasty members (Lady Goldfeather's generation), the Crocus Aer elven family (dated 1460 DR), and a deliberately destroyed portrait — possibly the Kropus Family. Current campaign year: 1503 DR.
  • Black Scales Faction: Serpentine agents hunting the Grand Key to Shindorim. Their master "wants what's rightfully his." They infiltrate other intelligence networks (appeared as Shiv/Civ agents before revealing their true serpentine forms).

Combat Encounters

1. Mama Bug Boss Fight (Osrin Family Tomb)

Enemy: Legendary aberration — massive spider/insect creature with egg sack, acidic blood, multi-attack, and legendary actions | Outcome: Victory

  • Silus persuaded Egan Osrin's ghost to ally with the party (persuasion 17 with advantage)
  • Egan activated the tomb's flame purge — incinerated all parasitic eggs but nearly killed Zolat (Death Ward saved her at 1 HP); both magic carpets destroyed
  • Vindvenford plunged 100ft pike-first onto the creature (38 falling damage to the bug, 7 self-damage via Strength save 24)
  • Silus cast Death Ward on himself and shield-bashed from 100ft (41 total damage including 8d6 fall damage)
  • Hop and Tao descended via slow fall to attack in melee; acidic blood dealt ongoing constitution-save damage
  • Zolat delivered the killing blow with Firebolt (18 fire damage)
  • Loot: 2,250 gold in coins, ~4,500 gold in artifacts, Corpse Slayer Boomerang, bug eggs/excrement, the Grand Key

2. Snake Agent Ambush (Threetrees Bar) — IN PROGRESS

Enemies: Two serpentine agents (cobra + rattlesnake) serving the "black-scaled master" | Outcome: Ongoing (continues next session)

  • Two disguised agents confronted Silus and Hop in a dive bar, demanding the Shindorim key
  • When Silus refused to relinquish the key, the agents dropped their disguises — cobra hood and rattlesnake forms revealed
  • Snake Agent 1 (cobra): ~60 damage taken (bloodied) — 43 from Tao's Flurry of Blows + 17 radiant from Spirit Guardians
  • Snake Agent 2 (rattler): 17 radiant damage from Spirit Guardians; pushed back by the elf agent's Gust
  • Silus cast Spirit Guardians at 5th level (5d8 = 17 radiant per agent) and healed himself with Healing Word
  • An unknown female elf agent intervened: "Don't worry, you're not alone."

Notable Moments

  • ⚔️ "My brother's apprentice returns." — Silus revealed himself as Silus Greymore, trained by Warwick Osrin. Egan Osrin's ghost recognized him and declared: "The legends are true." Pivotal moment that turned a potential enemy into an ally.
  • 🏔️ Vindvenford's 100-foot plunge — Leaped from the tomb's upper level with pike leveled, Baldur's Gate-style, and speared the mama bug for 38 falling damage. Took only 7 self-damage. The most cinematic attack of the campaign.
  • 🛡️ "Human cannonball with minimal risk" — Silus cast Death Ward and shield-bashed from 100ft, dealing 41 damage. He was so excited about the tactic he immediately began planning future applications.
  • 🔥 Zolat's killing blow — At 1 HP after nearly dying from the flame purge, riding on nothing (carpet destroyed), Zolat fired a Firebolt and dropped the legendary mama bug. Maximum clutch energy.
  • 🪙 The coin flip heard 'round the table — Vindvenford passionately argued for Shindorim. Zolat needed Threetrees. The fate of the campaign pivoted on a single coin toss. Threetrees won. Vindvenford's dream of Shindorim will have to wait.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 27 family members freed — Zolat watched her 27 petrified relatives come alive one by one in Donovon's space — flesh and blood, translucent, confused but alive. First words: "Can we go? Where are we?"
  • 💀 The bag of skulls — Donovon's "payment" turned out to be skulls etched with locational map sigils. Not coins. Never trust a cosmic merchant.
  • 🐍 "Black scales!" — Two intelligence agents revealed as serpentine horrors in a Threetrees bar, attacking for the Shindorim key. Cobra hoods, rattlesnake tails, and the ominous declaration: "The master wants what's rightfully his."
  • 🧝 "You're not alone." — An unknown elf agent smashed through the bar door at the last moment, scattering the snake agents with Gust. Who is she? The perfect cliffhanger.
  • 💔 Vindvenford at 1 HP — The half cloud giant dragged himself to the Oshitzu compound with a caved-in chest and shattered armor. His wives peeled off the destroyed equipment while catfish nuns rushed to heal him. Even giants have their limits.
